Irons are almost always struck on a descending angle — the fitting question isn't whether you hit down, it's how steeply, and what that does to your lie angle and gapping.
Why Attack Angle Still Matters on Irons
A descending attack angle compresses the ball against the ground before the club continues into the turf, which is exactly how an iron is meant to work. The fitting variable isn't whether you hit down — it's how many degrees down, because that number changes the dynamic loft you deliver and, by extension, the static loft your set actually needs.
A golfer with a shallow descending angle needs different lofts than a golfer with a steep one, even if both have identical clubhead speed. We measure the actual number instead of assuming.
The Other Half of the Equation
Lie angle interacts with attack angle to determine where the sole contacts the ground at impact. Too upright and the toe lifts, pushing shots left; too flat and the heel digs, pushing shots right. We check dynamic lie — how the club actually sits at impact, not just at address — on every club in the set.
