Why Sole Design Matters More Than People Think
A fairway wood is one of the only clubs in the bag that has to work equally well off a tee and off tight turf. How steeply you attack the ball off the deck — a shallower or steeper entry — determines how much sole camber and heel relief you need to avoid digging or bouncing off hardpan lies.
Golfers with a steeper attack angle off the deck often need more sole camber to prevent the leading edge from catching first; shallower attackers usually do better with a flatter sole that maximizes forgiveness on clean contact.
Head Shape, Loft, and Shaft Weight Together
We hit multiple head shapes and lofts off both a tee and a mat set to simulate fairway turf, tracking dispersion and turf interaction on each. Shaft weight gets tuned alongside the head, since a heavier shaft can help a steep attacker shallow out their entry angle without changing swing mechanics.
